We cleaned our freezer and fridge freezer top out when we moved to make it lighter. So much stuff that was unrecognizable. I always think I'll remember what was what so I'm the world's worst at marking my goods. The same when I can. It's really hard to tell one jelly from the other quite often.

Major told me how to ripen, Carol next time don't throw away

How do you ripen? The ones I've bought are too tart. I'm assuming they aren't ripe? What does a really good one taste like?

@ninnymary of course they are not ripe when they pick and ship them 70% coming over seas, now northern california/ oregon does have a thriving foothold in the kiwi business... this time of the year only by ones from south of the equator... south america/ new zealand/south africa... mediterranean area late september. north america..november on.

personally i do not pick any till just before the first hard frost and they are still hard as a rock. once picked and left at room temp, you have about 2-3 weeks till they ripen on their own... they are the sweetest kiwi you ever had...

when you look at kiwis and they are hard you have a 50/50 chance that they are going to be sweet/tart. if they are rock hard when touching them pass on them.
if they have a little give buy them, place on the counter for a couple days to a week they should start soften up. of course you can keep kiwis in the fridge for a month and take out a few at a time to ripen..

yes even the ones here we get a few tart ones, i mean a face twister tart and they are ripe.

I've seen them in the summer at fruit stands. I will stop next time and get a few.

What do you think would account for the poor yield? That's neat that you have kept track.

@journey11 two years ago did a major trim on them so i think that was 1 factor, the other factor last 2 springs they have had plenty of flowers, but both springs it was cool and not many bugs flying around to pollinate.

going to do a little trimming this winter plus need to tie some of the vines towards the center of the trellis ....
