Russ Crow's 2019 Bean Show Day #10

Hashuli Brown & White - Pole, Dry

I don't know why they attach the words brown and white to the name of this bean. It certainly look red and white to me. The variety was purchased in a market in Tbilisi, Georgia by American seed and plant collector Joseph Simcox (The Botanical Explorer). The seller had told Joseph that the bean came from a village called Hashuli hence the name. The bean is a very uncommon form even for Georgia. The bean produced about the same weight of seed as Harvard, but the seed quality was not nearly as good as some past seasons. Although I was able to pick out some fairly nice seed for regrowing. Seed Harvested Was: 7.05 ounces (199 grams).

Hayden - Bush, Dry

One of the outcrossed beans that Will Bonsall sent to me in 2015. It came as a segregation of a pole bean. So assuming that it might be a climber I planted it with the pole beans this summer and it remained as a bush no runners. Growing among pole beans and being shaded a bit from the sun it did do all that well, but I was able to pick enough nice seed for regrowing. Total Seed Harvested From 8 plants Was: 2.85 ounces (80 grams).

Hemelvaartboontje - Pole, Dry

Got this bean from my bean trading lady in Liebenfels, Austria. This bean is usually very productive but it struggled very badly producing only 2 ounces of beans (56 grams).

@Bluejay77

wow, i'm sorry.

i had a packet of Otis Stuart network beans ready to send back to you and for some reason my brain does not know why it never got to the box i shipped out to you. if we do a trade this year or i see you in person or something i will send them along or hold them until next year.

or if someone requests them from you and you're short let me know and i can just send them to them instead? either ways...

i found them this morning as i'm sorting other beans and i see that packet and go "What the heck?" i kept them in the box to send back, so why wasn't that in there? Mom can be a gremlin here, but i'm sure she didn't do that one... senior moments at the mid-50s? uhoh... oops. lol good thing we have a sense of humor... i may really need it... :)

i guess this is another sign that growing too many beans at once isn't good when you don't have enough space to organise them well or you get going on too many things at the wrong time of the season. :) yes, i am downsizing for next year. trying to hold it to 30 instead of 50.

Can you give me more details on this ride thing. Who needs a ride from where to where?

Ok that would be fine. Since I'm not going to Florida this winter. I will probably be doing the Central Michigan Seed Swap in Midland on February 25th. If you are interested you could take a ride there. Are you far from Midland?

i am about an hour southeastish from there.

i am already planning on going and sent a message to them to hold table space for me. it will be great to be able to meet you in person.

i would offer crash space to people but we are really short on space here and Mom would probably not like it for me to invite strangers. i'm not worried about pretty much anyone but having someone else in the equation means i can't just go willy nilly like i've done in the past. :)

and not that she hates people, i'm really hoping to bring her (i'm going to kidnap her as i told her she is coming to that seed swap this year) as she will have fun, she always does... she's more of a people person than i am.
