Hi, Lyla, welcome to the bean thread and the forum. Fell free to join in anywhere you want.I will put up something tomorrow for them to climb up & see what happens. Yes, I’m in Lexington my name is Lyla.
Only 4 of the plants do not have the runner extensions. (You sent 23 seeds, 19 germinated & are currently growing.). How would you like me to proceed? Leave them all? Pull up the obvious wrong kind? I could try transplanting, no clue how well that would work. I’ve attached a pic of two of the presumed TN Greenpod side by side.I had figured that is who you are. Did any of the Tennessee Greenpod grow as a true bush without runners?
Yes I would pull up the plants with the runners on them. Also the photo you are showing. Notice the three leaves on the left in the photo. They are rounded and look a little cupped downward and slightly blistered. The leaves below them look like normal bean leaves but now that plant has gotten taller from growing more it appears that a Mosaic virus infection is becoming active in that plant. How many plants do you have that look like that with rounded or oddly shaped leaves and maybe cupped and blistered?Only 4 of the plants do not have the runner extensions. How interesting. Most of my gardening time has been spent purchasing a mix of hybrid & OP seeds each year. Ive only just started saving some seeds in the last couple. So this whole thing y’all have going is amazing & awesome!Hi, Lyla, welcome to the bean thread and the forum. Fell free to join in anywhere you want.
Since that was cross-pollinated with an unknown bean there is no telling what you will get. The bean may be OK as a snap bean or only good as a dried bean. As Russ said, it may climb a little or a lot. You may get many different flower colors or some pods may be green while others have purple stripes. Each bean on a specific plant should have the same color and pattern but each plant can be different. If you have kids it can be fun letting them open the dried beans to see what they get.
As an example, the brown bean in the middle was from a cross-pollinated bean, actually three generations from the original cross-pollinated bean. When I planted it last year I got none that looked like the original brown bean I planted but instead got the four colors/patterns you see. To me this is really exciting, to see what you get.

It’s rained most of the day today so I’m not doing anything in the garden but looking. Upon closer inspection at the few TN Greenpods that I have I do see what your talking about with the mosaic virus symptoms. From my brief search of the web it’s telling me no cure destroy the plants, but will they still produce? Will the virus be passed down to the seeds? Will it stay in the soil? I feel way out of my element here, please guide me. I will attach photos of the top leaves w/ growing tips of each of the four TN plants. The first one is definitely the worst. The last one however looks perfectly fine (to me at least). Ok, so it looks like they got out of order when I added the photos, sorry about that.Yes I would pull up the plants with the runners on them. Also the photo you are showing. Is this very common? I have only vaguely heard of that term. I don't think I've ever seen it in my gardens, but I read a little bit about it when this came up. Is it primarily transmitted by aphids, or is it seed borne? In all your years growing large bean gardens @Bluejay77 have you seen this very much? I don' think I would have picked up anything was wrong from the photo, I've seen some leaf irregularities here and there but I don't think it was ever anything serious. Can you have leaf irregularities sometimes in bean plants without it being mosaic virus, maybe due to high heat or dryness etc. ?Yes I would pull up the plants with the runners on them.
