Blue Jay's 2022 Bean Show - Day 19

Mona Lisa - Pole Dry- 2022

From my bean friend in Austria. I grew it this summer mixed with Idaho Marrow. I'm hoping Idaho Marrow will pick up the Mona Lisa seed coat and possibly be more productive than Mona Lisa. The best Mona Lisa seed crop I had was seven years ago. I haven't had a grow out like that one since.

There will not be any bean posts from me tomorrow because of the Thanksgiving holiday and possibly no bean posts Friday either. Probably be back on Saturday.

Not all that bad, dear @heirloomgal ! You hit it several times.

Mooreskönigin = correct!
Halbohne Reiser: syllable Hal I don't know (yet), bean is clear, and Reiser is another word (more used in Bavaria and Austria) for twig, because of their height they need/appreciate some support by twigs.
Wachtelbohne = correct!
Quedlinburger Speck(bohne) = I am very much for renaming it into "A Bacon Sandwich from Quedlinburg"! Yes, Speck means bacon, because they are soooooo delicious being fried in a pan along with bacon. Quedlinburg is an old, charming little town in eastern Germany, first mentioned in the records in 922.
Blaue Meerbarbe = correct Blue Sea-barb (Barbe is translated as barb - so: very similar to mullet) Your questions do also improve my English now!
Kartoffelbohne = correct!
Meuch: no translation. Some (rare) family name.
Schäfermädle = correct! (Mädle is a regional word e.g. in Swabia and Alemannia (South Western region of Germany) for girlie/lass(ie)
:)

@BeanieQueen, You don't know because the correct name for this bean is Halbhohe Reiser. I may have mislabeled it when I sent the seeds to @heirloomgal .

I've been having problems with my account for some time. I can log in but can't do anything else. Supposedly because e-mails sent to me by TEG's sister sites are returned to the addressee. After my intervention, the account is unblocked, but I don't know for how long. Have you had a similar problem?

I think Mona Lisa will eventually make it back on my website. I am going to plant it out at my Bean Acres site this coming summer. Bean Acres is the place with the deer fence and two large raised beds. There is more sunlight there for pole beans and a lighter soil structure. Will see if I get a better volume of good seed for Mona Lisa there.

I believe it likely that this is the same bean carried by SSE as "Olteanu's Romanian Yellow", which I have grown. It was originally listed erroneously by SSE as a runner bean, until I informed them that it was in reality a P. vulgaris pole wax bean. Both have glossy partially-purple seeds, I can see how they could be mistaken for small-seeded runner beans.

I had this conversation with them too, after growing them right next to a P. vulgaris variety that I needed good seed from. Grr.

Oh Yes when the Fiesta bean arrives I will photo that one for sure. I'll post both Fiesta and Candy taken with the same camera and under the same lighting.
I got my Fiestas and they're definitely on the trial list for next year. They're great looking beans! The Nona's Soup Peas I got from them are also on my list.

Cool! Thank you, @Artorius, for your correction! I need to translate this RIGHT AWAY to @heirloomgal - or you may. I am under the impression that you speak (some?) German.

No, I have no problems with this website so far, but I am not active on any other threads apart from this bean thread.. and I leave this tab here always open.
