I'm envious of those of you attending seed swaps. Our county just did get a seed library established last year and trying to organize a swap, so fingers crossed. I'd really love to attend the one in Berea, Kentucky someday.

I'm also participating in a USDA bean trial again this year and one of the varieties I'll be growing is a dry bush variety called Smelly Stone. Anyone familiar with it?

There is a seed swap coming up the first Saturday in April that is much closer to you than Berea, Kentucky. It is in Pikeville, Kentucky and I will be there. It's called The Appalachian Heritage Annual Seed Swap. At the Pike Central High School, 100 Winners Circle.

Thank you! Definitely closer but won't be able to make it this year due to an event the same weekend in which my husband is a vendor. :( On the bright side, there's plenty of time to prepare for next year.

I recently participated in an online seed swap through Garden.org. I shared 98 samples of beans (that's all I offered) in return for 85 samples of everything from beans and basil to peppers, tomatoes, native wildflowers, and on and on. There's a slick software system on the website to facilitate the activity. Most of the work falls on the "host" of the swap, and the success depends (of course) on the generosity and punctuality of all the participants, as well as the functioning of the USPS. I don't think there are accommodations for international participation, but it was my first time and I'm pretty excited, both at what I sent out and what I anticipate receiving.

I hope this message doesn't overstep any rules of this forum. Membership in the website is free and all costs associated with the swap activity (minimal) is strictly among participants.
