and 40 nights of rain, or so it seems to the South. According to the weather map, all of Texas is getting some sort of wet. Stay safe, all of you!

Our forecasters are predicting rain for us, but it's pretty much hit here and miss there for the past week. Last night we finally got something that did more than dampen the dust.

We lost power. Evidently I was the only customer who called to report the outage 'cuz the lady on the phone started discussing my costs if they came out. What! So Spouse and I went for a drive. Less than half a mile away we spotted downed power lines laying in the intersection. Having done their work for them, I called the location in, although, it still took another 3 hours for power to be restored.

This morning we saw trees down all along the next mile of road. Straight line winds had blown through and toppled over a dozen trees or large branches. Our yard had only a few leaves down so we really were lucky this time. My BFF1 wasn't as lucky. She lost several large branches off 50 year old walnuts and two trees completely down -- one roots and all.

She was feeding the fish when the storm started and ran to the house in horizontal rain and wind. The straight line winds passed directly through her land. Sheesh!

Glad you are ok and were only without power for a few hours. My sister lives in Conroe, close to Houston. She is not far from the San Jancinto River. She got 3' of water in her house. She and her husband were upstairs with the dogs. She is 68, has health issues, her husband is 74, has COPD, emphysema, heart disease and months go by without either of them climbing upstairs. They got their vehicles to high ground, took some things upstairs, turned the breaker off to downstairs and did the best they could.

Talked to her this evening and the water was out of the house, off the front porch, off the deck (it's 1500 sq feet) and on the other side of the pool. They just had the pool redone and now it's a mess. Mud in the house, it stinks, things ruined, and their son braved the waters to bring them McDonalds.

The bright spot is my brother in law's humongus TV survived. They had unplugged it, and it was high enough that the water didn't reach it. They turned the breaker back on and he has TV. His recliner is squishy, I told my sister to wrap him up in garbage bags so he could sit in his recliner. What a mess.

Oh wow for both of yall! @Smart Red & @baymule
That's not good news at all, hope both of y'all's friends & family get things back to normal soon!
@baymule I didn't realize it was raining that much in tx...dang
I know we've had a few pretty heavy lines of rain the past week or so, & pop up showers pretty much daily but they've been moving pretty quickly and not just sitting on us for hours & hours like in the beginning of the month.

They predict rain here every day but all we get is just enough to keep the ground moist.
The good thing is I won't need to water the garden for a while.

Wow bay I can not imagine the fear of being trapped in your house watching the water inside raise
Fortunately they have a 2 story home. But they are too old and in bad shape to carry stuff upstairs like they used to do. The contractor is supposed to have come today to rip sheetrock out. They have de-humidifiers going to help dry out the 2x4 frame work. Their kids came to help them, brought a power washer and blew all the mud out. They have windows up, it stinks in there. Their sons tossed the furniture outside, it's ruined. More rain until Monday, which will bring more high water. I hope if they have to stay upstairs again, they have better food with them than cheese crackers.

Why oh why is the weather so whacky? Is it cus we have better news coverage and the cycles are just that, cycles?

We're hitting 100 here this week - REALLY? In late May,early June? Grants Pass OR is to be 106 on Saturday; Vancouver WA is to be 100. Really?

What the heck is it with drought, rain, temps etc?

I think the Pacific Northwest has had record high temps quite a bit the last few years. It is so strange! I don't remember even having or needing any AC when we lived in Seattle 45 years ago.
