Just beautiful thistle! How do you keep such a big, nice edge on your borders? I love the beebalm too. I have a packet of seed, but it says I have to start it in pots - do I have to, or can I just direct sow? Yeah, I'm jealous. :/

It's beautiful! I sure do love all the green there, and the awesome trees...one of the downsides of living on the range, none here!

Thanks for the kind words everyone :) .

Heather, troliius' common name is globeflower.

Joan, I use a half moon edger on the borders.

Steve, my grandma always said Idyho also! She lived on the east side of the state in Swan Valley.
There are so,so many different varieties of clematis, and most of mine have been in for years without a hiccup. I did lose a Montana Rubens, but they're z6 so it really was doomed from the start. Sometimes you just shouldn't buck reality!

I have the tags for all of mine in a safe place. I just can't remember which safe place I put them in. But the raspberry one's tag I stuffed in the ground behind it when it was planted, so if you'll wait a minute I can name it for you...

( huff huff)...it's named "Madame Baron Veillard".

Really you should try some new kinds, there are many that are much smaller than Jackmanii and fit on a little trellis very neatly. ( Isn't it just like an addict to try and get someone else hooked? )

Yes, Nyboy, it really is a perennial. :) This one is Digitalis grandiflora, and it's been in maybe 3 years or so.

There are other perennial foxgloves, one of the more commonly known ( or maybe just to me ) is Digitalis mertonensis, or Strawberry foxglove.

Mine has not reseeded, but I generally deadhead flowers early on when they're done blooming.
