I cannot begin to tell you how many plants have been lost to ground critters . Around the PNW gophers are a real menace, as well as other ground critters. Some years the pastures look like an 500 hole mini golf course. Also deer… 🥴. Nothing worse in my garden than a gopher chomping down on fav tree and shrubs that have been cared for and protected from insects and ice storms in winters …then boom a gopher sets up camp , moves in and starts to close in on meals with my fav plants. They set up watch stations and tunnels to throw the gardener off. Yet I declare war and break out my weapons of mass destruction. Soon they are out waving white flags surrendering. They have cost hundreds in damages.
I real pain in the caboose.

Found it. Once it went down the slope, no fence at the top where the weeds are, she left it be.

Hey that was an outstanding job your pup did . Totally scared the pants off that critter. Good dog that was a very good video. Thanx for sharing. 🦫🐿️🦨🦝🐇 we got them all.

This is kind of a gross story . The other day I caught my big collie swallowing a chipmunk whole.
I yelled at her to spit it out …ugh..and she did…really couldn’t believe she would swallow one whole. 🥴

So did the chipmunk survive?

Well, all of the late planted pawpaw were 100% dead.
😭

I bought 12 new ones and got 23 seeds.
Will replant in the failed spots, then think about where I want the others.
Also, got a rare variegated that everyone else passed on.
🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 Please grow & thrive!!

Got 3 planted this morning. Reused left behind construction fabric for shade. About 3ft high. Idk if shade should be raised to have more shade around high noon or if this will work.
Also put the tree dripper on a timer. All that water is great for the willows, but not these new guys.

Left is trees. Right, thin is garden and thick is free to use wherever as needed.
Second, and last, spigot has a splitter, but no timer. One going down the mountain 400ft to the chickens, for obvious reasons. Lol. Other to hose to use freely.

Fancy smasy.. job well done. 👍 Like your timer system. I have b-Hive it’s also computer controlled by zones. A pain to hook up in spring but well worth it once the gets hot. It’s hard wired into the elec .

24/7 water drip and willows vs survive on your own!

Alive, but not much growth.

Found 3 more tposts & dug another hole. 5 new trees planted in all. Forgot the pics.
Updated chart of the trees by the driveway.
Original chart-

Revised with extra pawpaw added near gate-

Further updated with where the mulberry trees will eventually go. One less, as in/out through gate needs space for trailers. And they'll be a bit further away, since they'll eventually be big trees.

You are making a lot of progress , and by next spring all your new plantings will make a huge impact.
Time for a proud moment with your planting trees.
