Weather service I use says this summer will be cooler than normal with some rain almost every week. High in August is to be 91. Usually we have weeks in low to mid 90's.

It snowed non-stop for 12 hours plus but so light that there is only about an inch of snow in the most protected areas.

On the nearby roads, where afternoon temperatures lately must have warmed them above freezing, the snow melted at a steady rate. This was even true on the newly exposed lawn, near the southside of the house!

The sidewalk snow melted and is clear for this school day and I drug the can out to the curb for garbage day without using the shovel first ...

Still more "snow" in forecast and only 34°f for a high. Looks like whatever this amounts to, we will be back to previous conditions and olde snow piles after Wednesday's rain disappears this latest "snow event."

The evergreen trees are beautiful with their covering of snow and ice and mountain highways must be treacherous. Here in the yard, the doors of the pickup are frozen shut!

Well the chicken water had a little ice on it this a.m. but it is in the 60's now and it will be that way all night.

I need to get my garden tilled and plant a few cool weather crops. I should also be trying to get some tomatoes and peppers seed in grow pots. I'm going to hate having to spend all that money on plants if I don't get something going now. Maybe this weekend.

I have my beets, carrots, peas, potatoes, turnips, radishes, and lettuce in the ground. The garlic I planted last fall. I'm trying shallots for the first time ever this year, those are just coming up.

I have chard, kale, and celeriac (another first timer for me) started from seeds. I plan to start hardening those off in about a week. I have some sweet potatoes on top of my bookshelf but I don't think they've sent out any sprouts yet.

I was out working in the garden this afternoon, windy but otherwise pleasant. I've got all the ground ready for my kole crops and all the other early stuff not in the ground yet so I'm ahead of schedule.

I will cruelly test the strength of your commitment to grow tomatoes and pepper starts from seed ... don't take it personally, @icertuche , please!

We are now only 15 hours from the end of LAST weekend!

@Ridgerunner it was 2011 and 2012. I remember watching huge trees wither and die. It was heartbreaking. Grass will come back in a season, but how to replace 75-100 year old trees?

Just 2 weeks ago we had tree specialist take down 3 big dead trees that were too dangerous for us to fool with. They were remnants from the drought.
