These are some pictures of our tomato plants. The beds are new and nothing has ever been planted in them. They are healthy and as usual for around these parts, slow to set and form fruit.

Shortly after this picture was taken I was savagely mauled and licked.

Has anybody here ever heard of grafted tomatoes? They are new in Colorado this year. Growers are grafting heirloom plants to "wild" tomato root stock early in the growing process. They are supposed to provide disease resistance and give high production with heirloom flavor. The go for about $10-$15 for a one gallon plant. The trick to planting them is to NOT bury the plant below the graft so as not to encourage the wrong part of the plant to produce roots.

Hoodat, we hope you are doing well. Good to see you back! :)

My cousin works at a nursery and they sell the grafted tomato plants. I, personally, haven't seen them but he says they do really well. He gave one to my grandma and she just loved it.

I asked a friend of mine who does a gardening show on the radio in Denver and he said that even though the two plants are related it would be impossible for this to happen unless the two plants were grafted. Since this plant was grown from seed that isn't possible either.

I still think it's a real head scratcher. :/

Great! A Garden Mystery!

Okay, now it is your responsibility, RidgebackRanch, to maintain optimum conditions for the propagation of this tuber and save seed from the plant!

Ridgeback, May I offer my fantastic soil to the experiment with seeds from your potmato? Or your tomtato? I'd be glad to run a plant test along with digitS and you.

The bigfoot kids around here have an uncle who plants mysterious things like that in gardens all around the world.

ps, don't eat it, plant it like a potato. Who knows but ya might have a tetraploid hybrid volunteer.
