Worlds Smallest pumpkin

Looks like that might have crossed with an ornamental gourd... or one of my naked-seeded pumpkins.

For the first time in my life I tried a passionfruit! It's seldom you see them here in the stores really, but if you do they generally look pretty unappetizing. I suspect the fruits dehydrate easily if not wrapped in plastic, as the ones I've tried as of late have been super wrapped in plastic and then sold in a sealed plastic bag. The skin looks like very old eggplant skin, quite leathery, and all these years I assumed there can't be much taste in a fruit the color of an ancient banana.

WRONG! The taste is FABULOUS! That is if you like pineapple, kiwi, strawberry, citrus flavor - I found they taste like a combo of those. Just delicious. The look of the cut fruit however took some bravery to overcome, brownish limey green, very seed and mucusy looking (so....yeah that stuff). But my my my what flavor. I could absolutely get addicted to these! It's such a small portion each fruit gives given they are the size of a small orange and the cavity is not totally full, but I could sail through a bunch of them in no time if they weren't so expensive.

Once in a blue moon, you might find an even BETTER tasting one (the only one I sort of like). Look for ones that are pure purple (instead of the purple/green mix most are) and oval/egg shaped, not spherical.

It was a pumpkin crossed with an acron squash.

Once in a blue moon, you might find an even BETTER tasting one (the only one I sort of like). Look for ones that are pure purple (instead of the purple/green mix most are) and oval/egg shaped, not spherical.

I think these are those; the first ones were quite dark but these last few batches are a more dark purple, almost like a plum. Pure purple all of them. They are roundish, but not perfectly spherical.

I realized today that some of the cavities are more full than others, this mornings passionfruit was filled right up. Isn't it just the wildest thing that everything appears rather solid in there, and as soon as you slip a spoon in it all instantly turns to liquid?! And cutting them is like cutting a piece of thin styrofoam!

One of the best things about visiting Hawaii is waking up to a big glass of POG-- passionfruit, orange and guava juice. It may well be one of the best beverages out there. And for some reason you never see it in the refrigerator section anywhere but in Hawaii. Man, do I ever miss that stuff. Sweet memories.

I agree. The best drink that is hard to find here . We have the fruits here occasionally and I stalk up make fruit concentrate and freeze in ice cube trays great for hot summer days , just add the concentrate ice cube in a glass of sparkling water or clear soda.

Wow! I guess everyone has tried these but me! I was really missing out! It must be their season right now because I'm seeing the fruits in a couple places all of a sudden, most sold individually and saran wrapped. This is definitely new.
