A couple days ago, we were wandering around outside, and the neighbor boy, who was with us, came and showed us that he had caught a butterfly. When he let go of it, it immediately flew onto my husband and stayed on him until we came inside. Then it lit on the wall.

After that i had forgotten about it until last evening, when i was washing dishes, and it was on my dish drainer. Then (i was wearing bright clothes) it must've thought i was a giant flower because it lit on me. I didn't really want it in my hair, which is where it was going, so my husband helped urge it back to the wall.

Anyway, it's still in here. It seems to like us - or it has lost its flock (do butterflies have flocks?) I have been collecting flowers and putting out sugar water so it will not hang out in here and die. I can't bear to put it outside since it has started to snow.

Anyway, i want to know what it is. I know this is a plant site, but some individuals ;) around here seem to have an uncanny ability to identify these creatures.

Here it is on my dish drainer.

Yep i agree with injunjoe, it looks like a moth not a butterfly.

Thanks for sharing!! ;)

Yes, i agree, after consideration. It looks like a moth.

But what kind? And why does it want to live on me? :D

Is it going to eat a hole in my head? Or does it just like bright colors?

Hi PunkinPeep,

Heres the name of that moth for you, Ctenucha virginica ;) .

Greenthumb, you're a doll!

Sadly, that's not my guy.

My guy has a red/orange body, and black wings with white tips.

Yours has a blue body and solid wings.

I really appreciate the help. :hugs

Moths lay their wings down and Butterflies fold their wings up... just if you ever wonder how to tell the difference!

No problem, I adore and obsess over butterflies :) I have several tattoos to prove it! ;)
