Acquired Ethnic Cuisine & Gardening

Having another half cup of coffee after my cup with a 2nd breakfast. Gearing up for the pumpkin pies I will bake today :).

Second breakfast was chilli on rice with Monterey Jack cheese on top. Rice. It's an important part of our diet and contributes to our veggie consumption. Dinner last night was fried rice with eggs and lots of chopped carrots, onions and peas from the freezer. Rice for both meals was Nishiki brown rice.

Usually, brown rice has no role in our meals but this brand had a friend's favorable recommendation. Good. It is as easy to cook as white rice. Where's it grown? Did some checking — California. Yes, it is a Japanese company as distributor.

Ramen noodles are made from wheat with eastern Washington as a major source, internationally. Lots of our greens are eaten this way. Rice noodles go in our version of Pho. This isn't a very common meal and certainly isn't the best soup for veggies. Still, it is quick, easy and a use for broth when our no-bone-goes-unboiled policy produces a bountiful supply.

i am getting up to date on a fruitcake recipe from a friend... very easy, mixed dried fruits and nuts chopped to desired size, pour over that mixture a can of sweetened condensed milk and a can of condensed milk, stir well, pack into loaf pans (small or bigger). 3hrs for small 6hrs for the bigger. do not have measurements or temperature, but will get those details eventually. :)

this is a friend's grandma's recipe and he gave me a small loaf either last year or the year before and i really loved it - could have eaten the whole loaf in one shot, but spread it over three or four days. he offered to make one for me but he's busy and i want to do it myself sometime - i mainly just wanted the recipe and i've got the gist of it and can probably wing the rest.

I think with fruitcake if the cake part is very tasty, you can keep the candied fruit that you like, and omit the candied fruit that you Don't like, cut the walnuts in half or even use a processor and make the pieces smaller, and have a nice dessert.
JUST Don't follow online recipes verbatim.
 
My brother had a few sheep both as a kid and as an adult. Other than that, I had a 2 day encounter with a big flock working for a vet as a young teenager.

Good Gracious. My pants were  soaked with lanolin!
We use lanolin to recoat our wool sweaters when we hand wash them. It keeps the wool from getting frizzy and helps the sweater last a long time.

the whole interesting point of the version i had was that there really wasn't any actual cake. no added flour at all, no batter, just the two liquids mentioned. it was delicious.
