finally working on getting the 1 working bathroom floor tiled, it will be done before i head back to work for Monday. it will be painted after all that is finished (should have done this before the floor). i plan on tiling the walls surrounding the tub eventually too. the 2nd bathroom will eventually get done.

but that main bathroom floor has been bugging me all this time. i couldn't decide what to do till one day i saw those ceramic wood like floor tiles! with how small the floor space in this bathroom i didn't want it to be anything expensive & something quick & easy but safe to walk on. the tiles are the blonde-maple looking color so it goes with the rest of the hardwood & wood look laminate flooring i already have. i had under 40 sq feet to work with so it was quick to do after cutting my tiles before putting the mortar down

i had a few issues with cutting a couple pieces for some areas so i improvised! around the tub, toilet & vanity for the sink i had some gaps that would need to make too many cuts with a manual tile cutter. ran to the new Hobby Lobby & found they had some glass stars/moons & shades of blue flat backed pieces.

i should have pics tomorrow when i wipe all the haze down from the grout.

so lucky

I'll be interested to see the pics. So it is regular ceramic tile that has a wood pattern? That sounds like it would be perfect for bathrooms and kitchens!

Yes,

maybe especially for my kitchen with its wood paneling.

Of course, both DD and NyBoy say that the paneling should be painted because it looks so 1970's !

:gigwhen we were getting this house ready to move in i had to rip out a lot of dark 70s paneling in the kitchen. found that paneling hid a lot of layers i don't think this house should go back to. :hide dh had to explain why there was buck shot though the wall above where the stove is. (always treat a gun like it's loaded folks).

the berber & shag carpeting were both in gold & in need of ripping out too. found hardwood floor hiding under that carpeting in the living room. now i can claim i know how to install 3 types of flooring & know how to refinish hardwood floors too.

i'll never be a pro at any of them though.

You might not be a pro, but you are good enough to make major improvements on your home. Plus you are saving lots of money by doing it all your self.

Steve hold off painting paneling. Mid century modern has been the rage past 10 years, when it falls out of favor. !970s might be next hot design look. People will hunt antique shops for harvest gold and avocado green appliances for their paneled rooms.:ep:lol::lol::lol:

heh, i remember those colors well growing up in the early 80's when my mom still had some tupperware in those colors. basement floor was in the avocado green & gold. when cleaning out some stuff in the attic i found some metal panels in those colors & asked mom what they went to. i guess you could color coordinate your dishwasher with the rest of the decor & the company threw those in with the model she had at the time. :hu

when my dh & i were moving him out of his bachelor pad i remembered his fridge & stove were in the gold color. i'm sure the apartment complex was glad to have him finally out of there so they could update the place!

Hey! I never had appliances of either color ... white only.

I have thought about the stainless steel. Is it my imagination or do they look larger in that color? Could it be the reflected light?

Electric appliances are not my idea of attractive household decor. Blending in, hidden would be preferable. There are ways to make them uglier. I don't suppose my assortment of refrigerator magnets help!

I grew up hating olive drab green. The carpet was green, furniture was green and gold. Even the walls were light green. Then I bought my first upright freezer when I was 19, it was used, $100 and harvest gold! :barnie That thing lived for 36 years! My new one is white.

i believe you on the look of stainless appearing to be larger than they are-that light idea i think could be it. the price is also 'larger' because of their appeal. when rehabbing this house i was thinking of the stainless. but the gas stove that my FIL had that is in great shape was white with a black door. so i chose to go with black fridge & dishwasher. the stainless after i thought it over would just look beaten up or scratched over time.

i don't like appliances on the counter top but my dh keeps dragging out the toaster every time i clean & put it away. my KitchenAid mixer is just too heavy to put away but i don't mind it being out. the blender hasn't found a home in a cabinet but i'm trying to find one for it-hate the loud noise so hardly used since i got it this summer. sold the last one at a yard sale & it was never opened!

Bay, i imagine that new freezer won't last as long as 36 years, but here's hoping! my parents used to have in their garage an old GE fridge/freezer combo that i remembered being at our camp when i was a little kid in the early 80's. not really sure if the old fridge died of old age finally but a few years ago it was replaced & my mother complains about the new one having issues with the freezer side.
