It seems that we went a little...crazy... on the plants today. We went to Home Depot, Canadian Tire, and Lowes and came away with 17 more tomato plants, 17 more bell peppers, a jalepeno pepper, watermelon, and a bunch of assorted flowers plus 3 nectarine trees and 2 pear trees....

There wasn't room left in the truck for people anymore!

We even used the cup holders..

And LOOK AT MY APPLE TREES :D They've got leaves and it looks like they're getting buds now too...Looking fab!

I'm also curious... We're in zone 5a/5b (kind of on the boarder but we'll say 5a) in Ontario and I was wondering when I should plant out my started plants. I'm worried because we're expected to dip down to 3 degrees at night next week despite being past frost dates. Also, when I plant them out I do have some good miracle grow soil to throw in with them, but should I also use a transplanting fertilizer and when should I administer it? When I water them in the ground or beforehand?

If you are worried about a light frost floating row covers are a big help... old sheets will do...
I always give my transplants a shot of diluted ferterlizer when I water them in usually fish emulsion

Wow, you're past the frost date already?? We're in upstate NY (not far from Albany), and we never trust the weather until the end of May. Partly because we have way too much garden to cover if it does frost. You don't mention hardening off your plants before planting outside - you have done or will do that, right? Then it depends on what kinds of plants you're talking about - tomatoes, cukes, zucchini etc. won't tolerate frost, but broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, and so forth are fine with a light frost. Best of luck with all your new "babies", and congratulations on your apple tree buds!

Supposedly according to my almanac our last frost date was last week on the 2nd but i dont usually trust it and waited until yesterday to plant anything. i've already planted cucumber and some tomato and i have the ability to cover them and last night they did great. we're supposed to get down to 3 degrees overnight sometime next week so ill cover them during the day when its hot out and let the soil warm out nicely before nightime.

they've already been hardened off.
