Garden Master
On my ranch in central Cal. I had over 30 head of horses that contributed their fair share of manure. It took me 3+ years or adding 6+" , 3x / year before the soil had enough tilth to dig with a shovel instead of a pic axe. When the fungi, microbes, and worms do their thing, the first applications just dissapear into nothing. Since they are so hungry one has to add more and more manure. Here on my city lot in the PNW, I don't have access to any quantities of horse manure, so I turned to grass clippings from 5 neighbors. I covered each area with 6" deep 2x/ year. I got the clippings every week from spring through summer. Now after 2 years, there is very little evidence of the clippings, but there are worms galore and due to their orgies, even more worms. 4 pairs of Robbins have raised 2 clutches per year each on my worms. Sin?ce you have white sand and no humus ... guess what is in store for you ...more horse manure ?
