We've been getting a lot of snow here the past couple of days, first was a snow storm that dumped around a foot or more, than yesterday fell another 4 inches or so. I think theirs more snow or mix for next week. Anyone else dealing with snow?
I actually do like spending some time outdoors with the snow shoveling it, but i can't wait till spring finally arrives. You know Spring is just around the corner :ya. I'm sure underneath all this snow theirs flowers and life waiting to emerge. Nothing like being inside while its snowing looking at garden catalogs and ordering things.

Here's some pictures of the snow:

Hey HiDelight,

I hope some sunny dry weather will arrive for you soon. Sorry about all that rain. Yeah i'm sure it would be better to clean up the swamp, maybe that will help with the mud problem.

We've had snow on the ground almost continually for the past 2 months--an unusually long winter for us. My DD and I, as well as the 2 dogs and the chickens are really beginning to suffer from cabin fever. We're all feeling that frustrated energy.

The drifts from this last batch of snow have gotten really deep, over 2 feet, and I can barely get into the chicken barn now or get my wood into the basement. Being either muddy or snowy, we've not been able to get the truck back there and I've had to bring the firewood in by the wheelbarrow load for several weeks now, which is beginning to get really old! Today I couldn't even get the wheelbarrow through the drifts, so I had to throw it all down piece by piece. I am whining, I know! :p

I would have planted peas for Pres. Day, HiD, but my garden is buried! :D

It's been beautiful, the landscape, but I think I've lost my appreciation for it now and can't wait for a couple 40 degree days to turn it all to mud again!

I know it will have some good benefits for the summer, less bugs, and they say a good snow pack makes for an excellent morel hunting season. I guess we'll see! Spring is not far off, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see a big snow in March this year.

We are supposed to get a 4" blanket of the white stuff today -- a weather warning is posted.......Hmmm......the whole area will close down again. :barnie

We have had a mild spell in the last week & all the shrubs are beginning to sprout. I have those lovely short blue iris just coming into bloom........ :hit
They will become frozen brown balls if the snow settles & freezes ...:fl :fl

Keep Safe & Warm everyone! :D

I want & NEED Spring...!!

Well, here in Minnesota we've been dealing with snow since mid October, so I feel your pain! Currently we have a bunch of snow on the ground because it's been a very snowy winter, more so than in the past few years.

Personally I prefer snow, because then it doesn't get man-killingly cold outside! When it's snowing it rarely hits even 10'F, but when it's clear and cold, we could easily reach temps of -15 or even lower! Yeah, I prefer snow. I hate it when my nose freezes shut.

Currently (and for the last few days, and hopefully for a few more days!) it's not only sunny and clear, it's actually managed to get ABOVE freezing! Yahoo! The temps still plunge into single digits at night, but for a while during the day it hasn't been that bad.

We call this the 'February Thaw' and it usually means that we get a brief respite (though there have been years when the trees got really confused and started to bud . . . ) of warm weather, then a few more weeks of snow and cold. But when the Thaw shows up, we know that spring is only a few weeks away, no more than a month or two!

With luck, because the Thaw is just a bit early this year and (at least in our neck of the woods) is hanging around, I'll be able to get my radishes and beets and so on in the ground by the time our extension says: April 15th. Might be a bit later since I've got to shovel out and till the veggie garden expansion this year, but certainly by the end of April I ought to have most if not all of the root veggies planted and sprouting.

In theory I could experience the joy of radishes from my own garden by Memorial Day! Yay! And maybe carrots . . .we usually don't get warm crops to ripen enough to harvest until mid July, in my experience . . . it will be nice to have something fresh from the garden while we wait for the 'maters and the zukes and cukes and beans!

It makes me happy to be able to plan a garden while looking out at this snowy wasteland! And it also makes me happy that so much snow is melting right now, we probably only have two feet left on the ground! Hopefully my strawberries and raspberries are all cozy and like bugs in a rug, waiting for spring. We'll see!

Whitewater, I am in zone 4, in NY. We have not had too much snow, but like you I am imagining my strawberries, garlic, etc. tucked under their straw and a blanket of snow...waiting (perhaps as impatiently as I am) for spring! I really don't feel alive, until I smell that first breath of spring air! 32 days and counting!!!

I shoveled all the snow in my backyard into a mountain! Anyone want to go skiing . I figured if i just leave the snow it would make a lot of mud everywhere. I know how HiDelight must feel. You cant get around that well when theirs mud everywhere.

The forecasters are calling for a storm for Tues most likely will be mix precip., and they said that the week after that probably around the first week of march or so will be a major snowstorm possibly a blizzard maybe. Just when i thought this would be our last snow event theirs more on the way.
What can you do mother nature wants winter to last a little bit longer.

We've had close to a foot on the ground for the past 2 weeks, which is very unusual for the Cincinnati area. We've actually broken a record for the snowiest February. But the past 2 days have been above freezing (in the 40s no less!), so I'm slowly starting to see patches of green...and brown.

I thought I might have a sick chicken, but I think it's just all the mud that's getting them down. I brought her inside, and she perked right back up! Poor ladies have maybe a 16th of their usual space that's not covered with snow! But when I went to let them out this morning, I didn't need a coat.

I noticed that my crocuses are peeking up now! I accidentally put in 2 orders of bulbs last fall, so I'm expecting quite a show come spring.

Like Whitewater, this is just a 'fake out,' but it is a sign that spring is coming. After the winter we've had, it's kind of hard to imagine that in a month, all the snow will be gone & flowers will be showing their pretty faces!
