I am allergic to ginger and possibly coconut meat and my father is allergic to garlic, eggplant, and onions.

Are there any alternatives to these that I can grow? My father would be very grateful to eat what he used to (sort of) again and I like to eat thai food.

Just off the top of my head :

There are other flavors to Thai food. Lime and peanuts come readily to mind. Lots of people are allergic to peanuts but that nut isn't one you mentioned. There are other nuts, and "milk" made from nuts, like almonds.

I don't know what would replace garlic and onions that aren't in the onion family.

I personally like eggplant better than a lot of things. There's been a lot of talk on the forum lately about green tomatoes and summer squash. I very much prefer eggplant to either of these :/. How about if we turn it around? If one cannot eat eggplant -- how about green tomatoes and summer squash?

I don't even know if that amounted to 2 but maybe tossing that out will help :).

Great suggestion, but I cook thai food without it (it tastes like soap to me). Unlike garlic, onions, eggplant, and ginger, it won't really make anyone sick.

Still, appreciated just the same.

I know it can be used in cooking -- as well as medicinal - and I have a plethera of garlic mustard greens growing rampant here abouts. I would imagine if added to the food just before serving, the garlic mustard just might add a hint of garlic flavoring without causing allergic reactions to the allium family. I can send all the plants or seeds you want.

Ramps have a mild onion flavor as do shallots, but both are members of the allium family as well so you father might be allergic to them as well.

Haven't had eggplant, but THEY say zucchini tastes like whatever you want it to, so treat it like eggplant and see what happens.

He's really interested in garlic mustard. I'd love some, but if it's too much to ship, I understand.
