So, what my instructions failed to mention was the need to move to Texas before that first watering at Christmas time. I figured something was missing in their care.

I busted out laughing!!! I knew you were gonna hate me!

Cane, just go stick the bulb in the ground. It will be a whole lot happier. I have grown them in full sun, full shade, partial sun, they like it all. For your bulb, put it in a partial sun/shady spot in rich soil. It will love you for it.

well, well, well..... it's Lazarus the amaryllis!!
Sometime around MAY of 2016 my non-blooming monster leaf growing plant turned brown and died.
It was sitting behind the BLOOMING Christmas Cactus by that time and got forgotten.. and never watered... and no decent sun back in the corner of the file cabinet...
Just a moment ago I was watering the Christmas cactus (who just finished blooming AGAIN) and saw this dead, empty husk back in the corner. I pulled it out to toss it and low and behold there is a SPROUT!!!!
Gave it some water and stuffed it back in the corner!

i can't tell if that is a flower stalk poking up or a leaf beginning. though, if you've not watered it for a year and a half i can't imagine it being a flower stalk...

i have them lined up on my table and old wooden boxes by my patio door, they've not even died back all the way this year (i stopped watering them sometime around TG i think i have to stop a few weeks sooner). and it's warmer in here this year by a few degrees. i wonder if i'll have flower stalks this year... hmm... we'll see in a few months. i don't start watering mine until it gets warmer and more sunny so they don't have to struggle getting enough light while starting out.
