Does anyone know how the Amish have such beautiful gardens and crops? Their vegetables and fruits are the best looking in the country.

If their kids are too young to work off the farm, they work in the garden.

Agree on the no TV or radio, everyone works.

when you depend on it for survival instead of a hobby it tends to be better taken care of.

I would imagine that they are also better about passing down their gardening knowledge to their children...(no need for a master gardener class there!) My parents had a huge garden when I was very young, got divorced and gave it up, and never told me squat about how to grow things. I had to find everything out myself, by research and the hard way! :p

This is me and my brother and sister standing in my parent's garden... I think I was maybe 5. I most remember the heads of broccoli my dad grew, bigger than a soccer ball. I hated broccoli back then! :)

Journey - That is awesome! My grandfather had a garden like that, but I don't remember paying much attention when I was a kid. Now he's gone, and I would love to be able to go to him for gardening advice.
