Well I put in my last major workout before my 5k. Clocked 39:22. I'm planning a light run on Monday, and then nothing until the race so I have enough rest to make it a good one.

I really appreciate the men and women who encouraged me while running today. It helped!

I had a great day in the garden today! Rin took two long naps, and my husband felt like staying home and playing video games, so I was FREE FREE FREE to play in the garden!

And I got so much done!

I got every single weed out of my big garden, and planted an interesting new type of pea I found. Moved out my beans. Potted up every last plant that needed it in my green house. Watered everything. Set up my drip system so it's ready for summer. Planted a small stand of corn. Checked on the root garden. (It's doing great! The chicken barrier is working.)

Finally, I fed all the chickens and still had time to admire some of the rather spectacular flowers growing wild in my abandoned backyard.

All that, and when I came back, Rin was only just waking up from the last of her two naps. :)

Here are some pictures from the other day.

Corn getting planted, and showing off my new gloves! Found them at the dollar store, along with a sun hat ($1!)

Bean plants successfully put out to fend for themselves.

Vegetables in the root garden coming up. I just tossed the seeds, so I'll have to thin.

A view of the chicken guard keeping the chickens OUT of my root garden. Bunch of freeloaders.

2 days until the big race. I haven't been running and I'm ready to GO GO GO, but I want to save that energy for a sub 45 run. This week has been pretty horrible so far, starting with me losing my keys (still not found, and it's not like I have a lot of stuff to go through.)

Then I took my son out of school to take him to the dentist and this happens:

So then I have to spend the day dragging along a 7 year old who is positively GLOATING I have no way to take his butt back to school. >_>

The end of the week finished with the check the mortgage company SWORE was sent out on the 1st of April finally appearing after I stopped the check--dated the 19th. They never sent it the whole time they were assuring me it was in the mail. :he:mad::somad :rant

And as the icing on the cake, I went to start up the incubator today and the plug is missing from it. So the cleaning company couldn't be bothered to pick up the remotes for the TVs, the plug for the incubator, or the lids for the blenders--yet this is supposed to be 'as good as it was before the fire?'

Grrrr.

Today I just had enough of all this and I went out to spend some time with the animals and the garden and screw you stupid world.

So I went and had a chat with the meanest chicken I own, Pearl's chick. That is the face of someone who will definitely peck you if you check for eggs, so I just leave her be. She's probably sitting on a whole mountain by now, but as far as I'm concerned she can do so at her own peril.

Her friend, also broodie, got up when I checked on her, and proudly showed me this:

So the eggs are definitely fertile. :love I admit seeing that little face brightened my day.

The pickling cucumbers I took from the greenhouse died. For some reason the 3 gallon totes I grow them in tear the rootball when I try to slide them out, no matter what I try, so I started new ones last week, and planted them today.

Everything else in the garden is doing well. I successfully stopped a slug invasion with neem, and the beans transplanted without even the slightest bit of stress.

Unfortunately, I had to go back to the real world after an hour in the garden. :thKeys? Where are you?
