I just purchased some Angels Trumpet seeds from Parkseed.com

Does anyone have any experience growing it from seeds? I read that it was really easy.

How tall will the plant get if I start it late next week into the early after week? The planters they will be going in are about 20 inches wide at the top.. Maybe more.

This is the variety Im getting

Anyone know anything about it?

I got some seed from my mom to plant this year. She just scratches hers into some worked up ground and they go from there!

The site says this: The plant is quite compact in containers, reaching only about a 2- to 3-feet high and 3 feet wide. In the garden, it forms a dense, well-branched shrub 3- to 4-feet tall and slightly wider.

That is about the size these white ones I got from my mom are. They are bush-like.

I would like more tree like but I guess that can happen with pruning..
I read what the site says but I dont really always trust someone Im buying from. They are trying to sell something, not make friends! lol

Hi Sarah ... :welcome

You may be thinking of Angel Trumpet - Brugmansia <-- link ... a close relative to the Datura - seed from Parks... maybe?

I grew the purple and double yellow Datura in pots on my deck ... absolutely beautiful and very easy! 20 inch pots should be plenty large.
They don't tolerate frost at all, so be sure to keep them protected.

Eight weeks worked well for me... so for you, that would be about now... :)
Mine were blooming at about 12 -14 weeks from sowing.

When fall comes you can bring your pots in -or dig them out of the garden and pot. They loose their leaves and don't look great, but when you put them outside in the spring, they grow fast!! I am also fond of devils trumpet, a white flower, night bloomer. They smell like heaven and are very easy to start from seed. Enjoy! Counting the days till spring!

I thought Angel's Trumpets didn't grow true to color from seed? I bought some on ebay that are supposed to be triple-flowered yellow, but I won't be surprised if they are white. I'd be thrilled to find out otherwise, the pic on ebay was gorgeous.

Parks and other resources say germination can take up to 30 days.
I've started Datura metel Double Purple and Triple Yellow... the seeds were up in 10 to 14 days, keeping them at 70 degrees F.
I have read many instructions ... to soak, chill, scarify, etc... I did none of these. ... I just barely covered the seed, kept moist under a plastic dome... and had very good germination rate.
Good luck!

Brugsmansia (also known as Angel's Trumpet) will not come true from seed. They are hybrids and must be propagated from cuttings for a pure strain. The flowers most always point down, perennial tree in warm climates.

Datura (also known as Devil's Trumpet, and sometimes referred to as Angel's Trumpet) will come true from seed. Annual bush, except in areas with no frost. The flowers point up.

The Triple Yellow Datura I grew was from seed collected from a friend of mine in SC. Don't give up on seeing gorgeous yellow flowers... :) ... if your seeds are Datura ...
I hope you are thrilled!! ...:fl

The double purple was collected from a friend in FL - also came true- very beautiful! ... and I can't find my pic ...:/

One thing I liked about the double and triple flowered Daturas is the blooms last several days, the singles usually only one.
