That would be a bad thing, to have been the one to have used those potatoes on folks. I've never seen the sense in canning taters anyhoo....massive waste of time and jar space. Potato salad seems to be the culprit of botulism stories a lot, even when home canned products are not in the picture.
Again...common sense and good hygienic practices and canning methods count for a lot. I wouldn't eat just anyone's home canned foods...actually, I never eat anyone's but our own. Same with home processed deer and chicken...I don't much trust other people when it comes to cleanliness in food processing...I've seen too much, watching in horror all the while, to expect other folks to take such things seriously enough for safety.
