Just before 6am this morning my cell phone rang and woke me up. A male voice recording said that someone had made an order on Amazon using my credit card. If I did not made a transaction for $ 629.98 press #1. A female answered and asked if I had made a purchace for a cell phone from Amazon 40 minutes ago. I told her most asuredly NOT as I was sound asleep. Then she started to ask me for my credit card number ... I asked "what credit card company" and she didn't say which one. Then proceeded to ask me for my birthday, ( I did't tell her ) then for my address. I then said " at the advice from our attorneys [son's father in law, brother and sister in law are all attorneys ] that I was never to give personal information over the phone " especially from someone that calls me. This did not deter her and then she continued to ask for more personal information..... so I hung up. :caf

Amazon will call you if they suspect fraudulent activity on your account. If Amazon calls, it will not be an automated recorded call. It will be a live person. They will not ask you to press a number to be connected to a live person. They will not ask for your credit card information. They will already have this information.

When I get a robot call, I immediately hang up. Never press any buttons to get connected to the scammers.

i'm loving the new cell phone, our old land-line we didn't have any features installed and we had an answering machine which we used to screen a lot of the calls, most telemarketers wouldn't even leave a message. yay! saves me time answering the phone and hanging up on them.

now when someone calls, there's no answering message at all, on top of that if i do have the phone near me i can answer it and if it clicks over to someone else or i don't know who it is and they don't say so right away. well, i don't play games with them, i don't talk to them (that's a bad idea), i just hang up on them and block them.

the reason not to talk to them is that they may be recording and if they are unscrupulous they can take that recording and turn it into you saying something other than what you said.

do not say Yes, do not say anything else if you can help it. "Hello" and "Who is this?" is all they get from me.

we are on the do not call list, but for some reason the telemarketers don't use it.

the past few days i've been getting calls from "Restricted" which i don't know who that is, but i finally was able to answer it and find out it was a political poll of some fake kind and so i hung up on them just like anyone else i don't want to talk to. they're already blocked.

by now i have most of our regular friends and family numbers in there so when they call i know who it is. that is nice. sometimes i don't really want to talk to a particular person so i won't answer. this is to avoid me being rude to them when i'm tired or otherwise frustrated, i've found out through the years that it is better for me to not talk to them at certain times. except now i have another person getting into that zone with me and i hate it, but i also really just don't always want to talk and i also don't want to even explain that i don't want to talk. just because someone calls doesn't mean either of want to answer. i accept that in return too. if someone doesn't want to talk when i call them that's ok too. i certainly understand. :)

We only have cell phones no land line. I have a large contact list in my phone if the phone rings with an unknown number I do not answer it period. If it is important they will leave a message and I will call right back. With all the scams going on these days answering an unknown call is risky business.
