Anyone Convinced, to grow shallots?

Remember that if you start with shallot seed it's a two season project. The first year gives only small bulbs that have to be replanted next year, when they will grow into large bulbs. If you plant rather thickly in the row the ones you thin out can be used as green onions. If you start with bulbs you get large shallots the first year.

I think that may be the "hang-fire" situation in southern latitudes that I'm imagining.

These were from spring-sown seed in my garden. Photo was taken in early October.

They continued to grow all season and made usable size by that time. From seed, the shallots didn't stop in July as they do from sets. In my garden, I hasten to add.
