anyone see the cicadas yet?

According to reports they are beginning to emerge now on the East Coast. I guess they were slowed down by the unseasonable cold weather in that area. I like the sound of a few cicadas buzzing but a swarm like this can be deafening.
So far as tree damage goes it's minor and short term. Trees easily recover from it with no special treatment.

older fruit trees should be fine from the damage and it would just take some clipping off of affected branches. unfortunately i have very young trees i grafted this year and they are the size that the females could damage severely before they get growing. :(
