1st world problem. When I remodeled the country house bedroom last year I found a pair of lamps I fell in love with. They are not Boudoir lamps but tall lamps that are shaped like Corinthian columns. Problem is when in bed reading or watching TV I can't reach the switch to turn off, I have to get up . Does the clapper work ? My other though was having switch put in wire from outlet to lamp. Is that something I can do myself ? New Alarm pad is one touch to firehouse.

This Old House just had a segment about the wireless switches you can hardwire into existing circuits.

I looked at them, although I hardly trust myself doing anything with electricity. Expensive! Okay, New Technology - patents.

Now I see outlet plug-ins and wireless switches - cheap. I bet those have different patents. How about those?

who imagines clapping while he is drifting off would cause about 20 minutes loss of sleep. besides, DW would probably slap him

Oh @Nyboy your last line made me chuckle. (Good Idea though!)
I have never had or used a clapper. A switch in the cord sound doable to me. (Not unlike putting a new end on a drop cord. Good Luck.

This little gizmo works great. I got a couple for my folks so they could turn on lights in the living room from the door. The light switch can be mounted or can just sit on a table. Plug the lamp into the 'receiver' and you're good to go.

My parents had a clapper, they didn't use it long. Any loud noise would make it turn on or off. Even an airplane overhead would set it off.

What, me use some technology as complicated as a clapper? I'd be like Bay's folks, not no how, not no way! To me, that opens up way to many ways to make my life more complicated and aggravating. I could probably live with Cane's idea, but that's as complicated as I'd go.

Editted to say Cane's first post about the switch. I try to avoid extra dyes and scents in my life. I know, I'm boring and plain, but I like it like that.

OOOOR.....

Turn it on a while before bed, it diffuses your favorite scent in the bedroom and gives off a soft blue light until it's out of water. Time it right and it will turn itself off a little while after you've gone to bed.
(it's on sale today and tomorrow.. but you can get ones like it for CHEAP on amazon)
