Cane, those pictures were great. You're getting close! :) I'm starting to get different ideas now.

Here is my $0.02 ... a simple Zen garden ( Google Japanese, Chinese gardens) ... a few 100 lb , 200 lb.to 400 lb. boulders set in a 3 grouping ( symbolizes father , mother, child - to reflect your child care business) . some gravel -- meandering to symbolize a small stream. Plant several Muhgo pines ( grows slowly to 4'-6' ) and prune to shape them as bonsai. Elfin thyme spaced 2' apart then grows 1'-to 2 " high in clumps which eventually grow together , has pinkish / purplish blooms that last a few months. or Red thyme ( thymus serpyllum "Coccineus" plant 2' apart eventually will grow together fairly fast,1" to 2" tall with Red blooms for several months. Both of these thymes are stepable. Dwarf Lavender "tumbelina", has lavender blooms for months, grows to 8"--12" with flower stalks to 18" tall ( total) . Moss grows luxuriously in the winter and with moisture from the fog , will stay green, and are stepable. All require little moisture, drought tolerant, hardy, with minimum care. And are beautiful and serene to look at. :thumbsup I will raise my landscape advice fee upon request !

Carol, I've looked at Sunset photos. The problem is none of them have the space that I have.

Cat, I'm going to look into those hopefully tomorrow.

bobm, sorry but I don't like Japanese zen gardens. I don't think it would go with the house.

Keep the ideas coming!

Why not just embrace the natural desert theme and put down sand and rocks?

Here is a picture showing a bit more of the house (with a bit less work done).

I stopped by this morning, but forgot my camera (again) on the table I should have passed on my way out the door. Went out a different way. SIGH! I will have picts.

I really don't want to take ninnymary's thread so I'll post any pictures on another thread.
