Asparagus Arrived!!!

I sincerely doubt that any asparagus is GMO. The big companies are interested in big money, ie. corn, sugar beets, etc.

Well I am waiting on my asparagus seed to come in the mail, but I saw some asparagus roots at walmart yesterday. They had a Jersey something and the Mary Lincoln. Does anyone know how to tell if roots in walmart would be non-GMO? I was thinking that if I planted a little of the roots my hubby might get some asparagus this year.

There aren't any GMO asparagus.

You could try a few roots, Hunkie. I think it will be several years before you get any crop from the seeds.

I think I am going to cause my hubby was not happy when I told him it would be at least a year.

You need to wait even with the roots...patience is required for asparagus!

I just planted roots and I won't be harvesting until next year, possibly the year after. You can't rush asparagus.

vfem, THAT is great advice. WE have voles--stupid cats haven't eaten them!!! AAARRGGGHHHH!!
Never thought they'd eat my asparagus.
Mine spent the year and the winter in a huge tree's pot--2 1/2 ft deep, 2 foot wide at the top--so no voles YET--just another project that didn't get done bc of my daughter's April, 2011 wedding.
