Red, we used the covered container for low maintenance, as her parents are definitely not into gardening of any kind. We have gravel on the bottom for drainage, landscape fabric to keep the soil from the gravel, charcoal to sweeten the soil and control any odor, the top gravel will prevent fungus gnats from laying eggs and hold moisture, and we added Osmocote timed fertilizer to the soil. It should not need a lot of care. She really really really enjoyed this project.
