My Doll Cotton Candy, had a lamb ram this morning!!! Huge surprise I didn't expect it at all!! RabbitTalk View topic - Babydoll baby born!!! Pictures!
I put a jacket on him, since it can still be real cold at night. Last year, they had them around April, so I didn't even give the mom's their shots...crud!
She had just the one ram lamb. Last year, she had a boy and a girl. Her daughter [[we kept her]] was not happy to be sharing her momma. Non-stop calling and wanting to graze with her mom.
I'm hoping the daughter is carrying at least a single and that Blanka has twins. Blanka had triplets last year. I'm hoping because everything is an unknown again. I have no idea when they will have them and clearly, if it's a single, mom's do not bag up much at all...there goes my early warning sign.
It was a very nice 63F, so I spent all day with momma and baby. Would of been there even in terrible weather, I'm sure you can guess why. Yep, because of my LGD pup!
She was fairly good with them all day. She went off to check on the lamb again at dusk. She always shadows me while I'm out in pasture, unless there's something dangerous to bark at. So she only snuck off to check on the lamb when I would walk off and refuse to pay her any attention. Mom C.C. was a bit off, but baby didn't cry or anything, so mom let her sniff around. Baby ran after mom at one point and tripped over some hay. Pup and C.C. checked on baby, all was a-ok, mom went off to eat thinking baby just laid down to nap. Pup sniffed him over some more and then laid down, a leg on either side of him. It was very heartwarming. The whole time I was holding my breath and thinking "it's in her blood, she was bred to love and protect babies, gawd, please do not play/chew on the lamb at the very least!!" And she then laid down against him after he fell, like a true LGD.
So proud!
I really hope she will not go puppy-stupid overnight, hoping for the best for the little guy!
Sorry, pics are of the other critters, too. I was taking pics of him and then everyone reacting to him. Horses were locked in the pony's pen as soon as I found the lamb. They kept hanging over the fence in the barn, sniffing deep and listening to what was going on. I trust my mare with the baby, she's a mature and calm horse. She's locked up just to keep the pony entertained a bit. Pony is a nut, he is literally a giant horse-puppy! He will chase, chew, paw, and play with everything. I'm hoping the mom keeps her lamb away from him!!
Last year, the sheep had the lambs while I was at work, pony's nose was all up in their business while they had them. He was 'fine' until they started walking around and playing with each other. Then he wanted to join! Luckily, all lambs figured out how to get away without much trouble.
Daddy, he loves to lay around or sit around like a dog. He's chewed up/wool-less around the face because the pup keeps trying to play with him.
Daughter, Patricia, is i the center. Pup went out to lay in the sun.
I made the hay nest for mom and baby. Mom can eat without going too far, it also helped keep cold air out.
"Rawr! I want out", says Pony! He's lost some weight, yay.
Pup went over when I was leaving to check on mom and baby, then laid down a little ways away to watch out for them.
