Bee , when I was a teenager, I regularly hunted pigeons out of farmers barns with their blessing. I also had permission from a University to hunt Jack rabbits on the University grounds. I ate well and all invalved were happy with the hunting results. So, why don't you ask around to find a responsible teenager or someone else that hunts that would like to hunt on your land. Win, win !!! :thumbsup

I just need to get my youngest boy out here in the fall and turn him loose in squirrel season....it just seems like one thing or another happens during that time and we never get to it, but this year I'm going to pay a dollar a squirrel just to make it fun. Then I'll pop all those squirrels into the freezer until I get a mess to can....imagine the squirrel gravy later on this winter!!! YUM

That's ONE way of getting my apple harvest.... :D

Squirrel harvested in the fall, after they have eaten their fair share of nuts, are a wonderful, flavorful meat! Some members of my family particularly savor the brains of the squirrel...I never went that far.

Squirrel gravy is a delicacy! :drool Tastes a little like rabbit.

I thought with pest there is no season, hunted year around.

They tend to taste better in the fall, much like deer, after they have sweetened their meat by eating plenty of mast. I can shoot them in the summer and probably wouldn't get in any trouble at all about doing it for pest control, but then the meat goes to waste as it's not going to taste as good as when they have laid on some fat for winter and have eaten plenty of acorns and other seeds and nuts.

Sweet @ninnymary. You already know not all veggies and fruits come from the grocery store, well, not all meats do either. Listen to Beekissed well. She isn't suggesting killing for fun or sport, or even for getting rid of serious pests, she is carefully considering how to eliminate the pests without wasting God's gifts.

She moves up one level on my pedestal for that.
