You'll want to get two...they need a pasture buddy or they get too, too lonely. They smell pretty much like horses.

I've been too busy of late to take a look at the fall garden but did so this morning and realized I need to pick maters, squash, peppers, and beans. I didn't think I'd really be getting anything more out of the garden at this point as it has entered that "wild" stage where the flowers are looking wonderful, the tomato plants look like death and also like they are trying to live anew, the cuke and squash vines are looking bad, and the weeds have crept in here and there.

We've had some really dry and hot weather this past few weeks, so I figured the garden was done. Still struggling and now we are getting some rain, so I expect things will continue to struggle to produce.

Will post some pics I took today of this disheveled and wild looking garden on this rainy morning...I always felt that a fall garden has a certain charm about it. I love the wild tangled look of it all and it seems to be when certain flowers really shine. Love those late flowers!

You can see here where I've been spreading these new wood chips and also old ashes into the garden, slowly but surely.

Tomatoes...either dead and gone or acting like they've got all year to make something, stretching towards the sky. Some of the cherry varieties and also the Brandywines are 9-10 ft. tall.

Then there are the squash and the lone pumpkin that think they are just getting started. That poor pumpkin has shoved its way through the fine mesh of the deer netting.

That poor pumpkin....

I did not train this pumpkin up the fence, it just sort of took on a life of its own...

Beans on a few vines I planted are choking a few corn stalks and producing all they can!

And gratuitous pics of flowers in all that wild tangle.

While I was out taking pics, I snapped a few of the flowers at the front of the cabin, just getting started...these will bloom until frost and after, putting out way more blooms than you see here.

I'll take more pics as those flowers come into a fuller glory....every fall I await this time with much, much joy!

I hate to be nosy, but I see that ramp. . . I know neither you or mom needs a ramp -- both too active for that. I'm visualizing the ramp as a way to get wheelbarrows of foodstuffs in and out of the house and down to the chickens.

None of my business works for me, but I was just wondering.
