Wow! That IS lucky.

I'm still working on a deal with a local arborist (sp?). He brings logs into the landfill sometimes and I keep reminding him that when they do a job that requires the chipper, I would LOVE to have as much as he wants to dump.

It's crazy how hard it is to get wood chips for some of you. There are so many trees that cities prune and chip. They need to make it available to gardeners. I hope you get yours cane. Keep being persistent. Bug him so much that he will do it just to get you off his back. lol

Hope I don't cut up any worms while I'm doing it.
One more good thing about worms. They regenerate. If you do cut one, both parts may regrow depending upon where they are cut -- or at least the head section will regrow, so you won't lose any worms and just might gain a few more.

I'll remember that, Red! :gigCould just be the key to getting more worms in my garden....just cut the existing ones in half. :D

The funny thing is that, if I lived in or near town it would be a breeze to get these chips....it's way out in the country where the problem lies. Everyone out there does their own tree trimming and they just pile and burn the brush. It's just the urbanites that can't do their own and where most of the chips are generated. The closest we get to any tree chipping is when they do a right of way for the utility company and most of those are done on private property where they don't mind if they dump the chips on that same property.

That leaves us country folk out of chips unless we buy a very expensive chipper and do our own.

My favorite worm cartoon -- I used to teach invertebrates -- was one where the grieving wife was in a discussion with an insurance agent.

Went something like, "Yes, we see that something's happened to your husband, but until we find his other half, we can't be paying out on his life insurance policy."

I just found out from a neighbor that one of our other neighbors said we can get free chips from the lumber mill about 10 miles down the road. That would be so great!
When I wondered out loud if they would load a minimal amount (my girly truck is leetle) she said, Have you noticed all the trailers we own? They have a dump trailer
and she even offered that they could go get them. Even greater!
Dh did a woodstove pad/hearth out of slate for them at no charge because we're neighbors.....dang! I knew that would come in handy! haha
