Will do, Bob! :thumbsup Just so happens my dog is death on moles too, so if they get anywhere near this garden they are mole on toast. Had a vole digging into my breeding/brooding pen last year...I only saw a few of his little mounds before I found a dead vole outside that pen. He was just a little too careless in his voley little life... ;)

This old dog of mine is death on voles, moles, mice, rats and even song birds...used to snatch them out of the air and I'd find these little legs scattered about, so I had to move the feeder out of his territory.

Found everbearing strawberry plants of a healthy nature at Rural King today for $1.39 ea. so got ten of them to put out in the garden.

Spuds are up!!! :celebrate Supposed to get below freezing this weekend, so I covered the leaves with some dry leaves for insulation and will continue to do so until the danger of a hard frost is gone.

Got 3 more of those cheap roses at RK also...another Angel Face, a salmon colored climber and also a beautiful, fragrant tea rose called Chicago Peace.

Got more plug trays today also...will be starting some of my seedlings next week, peppers for sure.

Need to get out there tomorrow and plant the rest of my cool weather crops~sweet onions, garlic, ss peas, broccoli, etc. Supposed to be low 60s and sunny/clear tomorrow, so much work can be done.

I've already got a good start on a farmer's tan! :thNever had that this early in the year, I can tell ya.

You are a busy bee! Good luck with your roses. I love roses but with our moisture, I have to spray for black spot. I don't like having to do maintenance but I only have 4 and they are all David Austin so I'll pay the price.

If all your plantings are going in earlier, does this mean you will harvest earlier and your season will end sooner also? I know you are going to plant a fall garden so I'm guessing you may have a little break in between.

I'm planting my squash this weekend. I get a little impatient having seedlings around on a tray and having to transport them in and out. Chance of rain so I will cover them with milk jugs to keep the leaves dry.

Not really...these are things that are supposed to be in the ground at this time of the year due to growing better when it's cool. They will get planted again in August~all except the spuds~for a fall/winter harvest. These are things like romaine lettuce, spinach, onions, kale, beets, cabbage, broccoli, etc.

There will still be these types of things growing in between the cooler seasons, but some are likely to bolt if not kept picked or/and kept cool, if possible. I usually plant "slow to bolt" varieties and I also tend to plant them under taller, shade giving crops as well. I'll plant the lettuces and carrots and such in succession plantings to always have some coming along, while others will be finishing up and being harvested.

I finally found a use for that huge garden tub in our bathroom. It is full of Styrofoam cups with seedlings in them and a fluorescent light across it. I guess it really is a garden tub now!

That's how Mom's garden tub is being used this year. She's had that thing for almost 24 yrs and has never used it for bathing...said it's a waste of water to fill it.

Planted 10 everbearing strawberry plants in the garden today...most of them already have little berries on them, very nice plants to look upon. I tucked leaves up around them...going to get a little cold snap this weekend, but it won't last for long, so they should be alright.

Planted a few roses, some lavender and another perennial but the name escapes me right now. Watered the apple saplings...we haven't gotten those planted as of yet.

Didn't get to planting the rest of the onions, garlic, peas or broccoli...those will have to wait until next week, I'm afraid. Supposed to rain and snow the rest of the weekend, so all gardening efforts will have to wait for that to pass.

Was very gratified to see the huge, fat and plentiful worms when digging in this soil covered by the wood chips, both in the garden and in the flower beds. Those are some honkin' big worms! I know where to find bait when we go fishing this spring and summer. :D

I rode my tractor around in circles dragging the disc yesterday after loading up the pigs. In some places the pigs totally turned under the pine shavings. In other places they barely moved them, but they dug huge holes and I had to smooth the garden so I can plant.

My dirt isn't as good as yours is yet, but i'll get there!
