I have been working away from home for the last 6 months, coming home sundays and leaving early on mondays. I have had the occasional weekend off though. anyway finally got this week off, was planning to work on the new chicken coop and other projects that have been ignored for the past year or so. Wouldnt you know it woke up 4:30 am to get a jump on stuff and it was snowing horizontal and the temps were in the low teens. I dont mind the snow or low temps, but throw in the wind and I have to draw the line. I have got the drive walks and patio shoveled, now looking for something to do inside for the rest of the day. this weather needs to mellow out so i can get some of the outdoor stuff done GRRR! It is really maddening to have a plan go down on day one.

Mother nature just doesn't respect our time off!!! My mail delivery lady always take vacation over perfect weather. I have known her for years, and it is always the same. I told her the other day, if I ever go anywhere I am consulting her first!
Here's hoping the winds die down and you can get something done outside...You could always bake something!

Hope you get a break in your weather.

It's the same way with my husband. He goes away for work in January, and we get the worst weather we have all winter. It's happened for the last 3 years. Last year, I told my neighbor about it, and he couldn't believe it when it actually snowed!

Well now we are having a blizzard, I'm not making this up. The storm will last until tomorrow afternoon. Not only that but the temps are going to go sub zero with winds 25/35 mph awesome. Another 4-7" of snow tonight great. On the plus side the temps will climb up to 20 this weekend. Maybe the wind will die down tomorrow that will be nice. I guess I should just except the weather because I can't change it.

Good grief, Collector! Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...There must be a closet you could clean out, or something you can do indoors! I am afraid this is a song we are all going to be singing, very shortly. Strangely, here in upstate NY, though it is rainy, it is 50 degrees! Go figure...

Well, all the animals have survived the worst of the storm, the wind has died down here thank god. the wind blew hard last nite starting around 6:00 p.m , it finally broke around 3:30 am here it is still snowing however. Before going to bed last nite I decided to check the rabbits one last time, the canvases had blown off the cages. The male rabbit on the end was completely covered with snow and not moving we were thinking the worst so DD grabbed him and ran in the house to get the snow off and see if he was alright. I stayed out to batton down the hatches so to speak. When I came back in they had defrosted the rabbit he wasnt really moving but I felt him and he wasnt shivering so I dont think he was that cold just conserving heat. I did not know what i was going to see when I rolled up the canveses this morning but all were active and moving around their cages so all was well. The chickens are a whole other story, they are not happy one little bit about the weather and they show it. so I am going to shovel out the runs again today and maybe they will come out.

lesa, I did go inside after the girls home school was over and we all made applesauce for Thanksgiving and froze some for Chistmas, so that was fun for the whole family. It is going to get even colder tonite and tomorrow nite so today i will work on the rabbitry, and chickens so all are more comfy and secure.

PS it is currently 6.5 F here.

Man, I guess I know where I am not moving!! I crack up when my chickens complain- I say "trust me, if I could change this weather, I would!" Here's hoping the winds change and bring you a little relief!

Dang cold, ain't it?

I am afraid that our high today came at 1am :(, 10F. My home is very close to an elementary school (districts that are closed are mostly to the south). I've shoveled in front of the house 3 times, starting at before 5:30. There isn't much snow (about 8") but it is blowing!

Since it is blowing under the carport with a northern exposure and blowing under the deck with a southern exposure, I was confused as to which way this 15mph wind (gusts up to 25mph, overnight) was coming from. Then I looked at the radar map. It is swirling over the top of us and while slowly escaping over the mountains.

I might open the chicken door here in a little while but probably not. The hens don't have much room in there but I doubt that they want to come out. It would just be opening the door for fresh air but it was cleaned recently, the poop is well frozen - how bad could the air be?

Looking back, it was -21F on this date in 1985! See, it could be worse ;).

Are weather report here in this area is calling for another 6-11" tonight and tomorrow, on the upside the temps are raising so no more sub zero in our near forcast. the animals seem much happier, not getting as much stink eye from the chickens today LOL. It is snowing lightly now but the temp is 21deg F , Glad the mercury is rising it will save on heating cost. Happy THANKSGIVING!
