I've never grown English peas. I can't stand the taste of canned peas unless it's in a soup or casserole. But, I have never had fresh English peas either. I've heard that they taste very different than the store peas. If you can them quickly.

It got down to 32* both Monday & today. I had frozen potato vines this morning.

they are a food of the gods/goddesses IMO. we'll stand in the garden and eat them right there. they don't often make it in the house. i'd never desecrate them by canning or freezing. lightly steamed with a little butter. yum.

Bay, take care with these storms that are heading our way. Watching channel 7, they just said the NOAA weather radio is down and the tornado alarms in Longview are down also. What a great time to be down.

Man, there was a bunch of tornadoes down south of us. Those poor people in Alto got pounded! When it finally got to us, it was just wind/rain/thunder. Now the sun is out.

Did y'all get any damage?

I don't think so. I'll get up on the roof in the next couple of days and look around. I have found roof damage to be my friend. About the time I need a new roof, something comes along to tear it up. LOL Don't really need a new roof here on this house yet, but hey, if it is damaged, I'll sure take a new roof!

Your insurance is better than mine. They pro rate here. Damages are usually what the deductible is after they determine the worth of old roof vs damage.

Get replacement value insurance, then you don't go through all that depreciation crap, where they tell you that your roof (or other damage) is not worth that much because it has depreciated. WTH! What the contractor charges to replace/repair the damage sure doesn't work for depreciated wages, NO! Lowes doesn't depreciate their lumber and other building materials. Depreciation is just a legal way for insurance companies to put the screws to you.

When Hurricane Ike dropped a massive oak tree on our old house, we came out pretty good on that. Since our house was paid for, I didn't have to play the mail the check back and forth game with the mortgage company, via a contractor's invoice. I did the roof myself, using seconds architectural shingles. I got a guy from work to help me, and we tore off/shingled the roof (35 squares) on 3 weekends. We got a check for $12,000 and spent less than $4,000. That included getting the structural damage repaired (by a friend). We spent the rest of the money on other improvements.

So if we need a new roof, I'm not worried about it.
