Thank you very much for all that valuable information, I hope I don't lose this post so I can come back to it. :weee just have to buy the monitors to measure now. We do not have anyone checking our soil to my knowledge but will enquire

another thing to recall is that life is somewhat acidic so by adding organic matter you will be adding slightly acidic things to your soil, which is good as life likes life. :) once you get away from the central area of the pH scale (7.0 is neutral) say below 6.0 or above 8.0 you can run into more problems, but even at extremes there are some plants which will be happy and grow ok (blueberries like acidic soil so are ok down quite a ways). i don't recall any higher pH plants, but i'm sure there are some. :)

if you want to use natural pH indicators look into making some from red cabbage... i've yet to do any pH checking here. i'm just keeping on adding organic materials when i can and the gardens seem to get better so that is good enough for me. if i ever get some finicky plants then it will be worth a test kit or brewing up some juice.

I direct seeded the cucumbers. I kept them watered. I think it was old seed. What I just planted is from 2018. If it doesn’t come up I’ll get some more seed.

For some silly reason I have a lot of seed packets. I’ve been trying to use them up. Some come up, some don’t.

I put some more sweat equity in the garden this morning. I finished cleaning up an area by the weed cloth. We tilled this all up, laid out weed cloth and the weeds jumped right back up. I’m taking my garden back!

I found two watermelons! When they are ready, the rind will turn yellow.

Green tomatoes. No ripe ones yet, but lots of green ones.

I was back at it, pulling weeds, I hauled out 4 wagon loads. My husband wanted to help, but he can’t bend over, it makes him dizzy. So said we could finish the bean rows. He loaded the mule with mulch, using the tractor. I laid out Feed sacks that he had already cut open on a previous morning. He backed the mule into the garden and we used the wagon to dump mulch on the Feed sacks.

This is the Asian long beans on the left, Kentucky Wonder beans on the right.
