It’s been a nice day but I’m tired.

It is always a good kinda tired when you are harvesting your garden. Take some time to put your feet up and kick back. Your garden is doing so good I’m green with envy.

. DW bought Elderberries from a Craigslist ad last winter and that was how they came. The person had froze the whole clusters and then bagged them in clumps for sale. Not sure if it made the picking easier or not but I can find out and let you all know if you like.

Yes, I would like to know! They are stinkers to wash and get clean. I wonder if the seller washed them before freezing. We pretty well picked the bushes clean but there might be a few clusters that ripen. I would be interested in trying this.

That is exactly what I am doing right now! LOL LOL I woke up at 3:20 this morning, couldn't go back to sleep, thinking about all those peas to shell. So I got up at 4 AM and started shelling peas. DH got up at 6, made coffee, brought me some and I kept shelling. I went outside at 7, picked the rest of the peas, more tomatoes, Kentucky Wonder beans, Thai #3 long beans and cucumbers. Wound up with a little over a bushel of peas, got them all shelled out. A neighbor lady bought the shelled peas, 5 pounds of tomatoes (she is already a fan of Cherokee Purple) marveled at the Mortgage Lifter, one of which weighed over a pound. She bought a dozen big jalapenos to make jalapeno poppers and i gave her some cucumbers. She was delighted.

We had to go to TSC today, Cornish Cross chicks were a dollar each. I bought 10, the manager gave me 10. We have 30 ordered that we are getting next week. It has begun. We have neighbors, a couple that are both on disability and they are poor. So we gave him 5 chicks, a small A frame portable coop, feed to get them started and a water jug for them. He was overwhelmed. Gheesh, they didn't cost me anything, share the wealth! I told him to raise them up and in 2 months we would slaughter them and I would show him how. Heh, heh, heh, suckered him right in on that diabolical plan. In no time he will be raising his own meat. He is now putting in a garden, so I will load him down with garden seeds for spring.

I am tired. I will start a batch of pickles tomorrow, maybe can the KW beans that are in the refrigerator , maybe not. Need to go to town.

Teach a man to fish and you will feed him for life but in your case "teach a man to garden and raise animal for food and you will feed him for life". You are a blessing to them!

sounds like a perfect spot to perch on a hot day.

Mom wakes up early like that too, she sits and knits for a while. she wants to make some cookies this morning so i told her to just start when she wants and she didn't want to get going too early, but when i woke up i told her i was awake so she could get baking. we got her mixer out and set up last night so she'd be ready to go.

today will be the coolest day of the week so it's the best day to bake.

it has been raining enough that i'm hardly doing anything in the gardens. weeds are going to be ahead of me, but i did get a small garden done the other day. need to pick some beans for fresh eating. cucumbers too.

DW said she picked them off the stems frozen and thawed out and the both were tedious and slow. She read about cooking the whole bunch at a time and straining out the stems and seeds, which turned out to be the best for her. She was making medicinal elderberry syrup so it worked better and many times faster than picking each berry off. The syrup is pretty good I take 1 large tablespoon daily.
