I bought an anise hyssop plant 3 years ago. It was huge and pretty first year. Second year the same with lots of little seedlings underneath it, so I dug some up and put in the back by the garden. I thought I would have one in the front and one in the back, but this year the big one in front never came back and the one in the back is very small. I am not sure what happened. Is it a biannual?
I bought a pot of this purple bee balm in 2010 and a couple years later separated it and planted in different places. After that, it has spread everywhere. I also started some from seed that are red, but barely have any of that in the yard. The bee balm in the picture came up in that spot on its own last year. I forgot about it and this spring when I covered the box of lettuce and spinach, the plastic was covering this bee balm that sprouted underneath the plastic. Bee balm around the yard had barely came up and this was up a foot when I took the plastic off. The bee balm in other places is a good 4 or 4-1/2 feet tall.
They reseed easily. At night my yard smells wonderful.
