Beets and onions

I started some from seed a couple months back, but I think it is too cold for them now here in central VA. Do you think if I covered them with straw they'd grow again in the spring?

If they are still alive they will and could turn out great. I've had the most success with starting onions in late summer and over wintering them. If they make you will have great onions sooner than growing them from sets in spring.
