Cane', Major has been doing some major babying of those babies.

What you gotta do to maintain your gardening composure is take those kind of things into account.

Yes, that and do this very careful analysis: see, there's a chickweed plant very close to that middle pepper plant. Then, about 10" away from it, about 8 o'clock, there's a quack grass seedling. Just a few inches up is a dead nettle. You can even give special names that are just your own to identify weeds in another gardener's pictures. Yes, it all helps with gardening composure.

Steve ;)
Thank you Steve
(still not speaking to Major)

I just saw the writing on the wall and thought to warn you. I'm doing a small batch of container grown Early Girls (which I still don't have anything set up for I'm still painting at the new house grrr) and a handful of jack o lantern type pumpkins crawling up the engineered drain field at the new house so I'm jealous of EVERYBODY this year!

By the way when I saw the purple bell picture I thought to ask.....is that one of the purple outer skinned varieties but green flesh? Or more like chocolates that are have a rich color throughout? I haven't had either but am very curious on what you think of them as far as taste. Given your culinary experiences I'm really curious about your opinion as things progress down there.

hum that's is going to be a whole new thread and worthwhile at that...

all bell peppers while in their" immature" growth will have a green bell pepper taste.
as they mature they will take on a sweet taste no matter what color they are.

after taking a lot of input going to cull all but 1 of each of my bells,so they grow large, and throughout the season going to do a photo shot of their progress from now till mature and give a weekly report on them.

Major, those are some major-lee bee-yoo-tee-full bell peppers!!!

Canesisters, would this be a bad time to let it be known that I have 3 bell pepper plants, red, yellow and orange from last year that are loaded with big, medium, small bells and still flowering like crazy? And yes, a couple of them have ripened and we ate them.

Just wait - when 'The garden formerly know as Mt. Rotmore' warms up I'm gonna have peppers and tomatoes that will make a compost pile proud!
I'll just go sit in the chicken coop for a while, at least they don't need for the soil to get warm before they grow.
:p

I'm where you are Cane. My peppers are still in the hoop house. I was considering planting out on the 18th...I say was. The extended forcast is calling for 36 Monday morning. It should warm up enough to plant out on the 18th, but I will have to keep the frost protection handy.
