Are there any good books recommended? Maybe for my area of the country? Sure was easier back home LOL I need to know when to plant our here too

I think I already mentioned this one, but for a reference guide I don't think you can beat the Sunset Western garden book. There are sooo many books out there, maybe a fellow 'zoner can help you out.

I've found this book at our local library to be extremely helpful (especially the plant-specific section in the back).
When my broccoli plants developed a purple hue, it told me what might be the problem. I tried the remedy they suggested and sure enough - the new growth was pretty and green.
I would love to have a copy of it sitting on my shelf at home.

Visit you local County Extensions Service Office for planting publications. They will be "geared" to your local.

Try googling your state name and Extension Service. Many of these publications are available for free online. You can even download them in pdf form in some states.boggybranch said:

I know that my state has wonderful resources available online, complete with planting dates given for each of many different veggies, with charts that include different parts of the state (North, Central, South) to make it more accurate. Your state may have something similar. (I was glad to find these charts because I moved from one state to another, which included a significant change in gardening zones, about three years ago and this is the first year I will have been able to plant much in the way of a garden here.)
These really are the best resources for beginners, I think. They are pretty useful for the experienced gardeners, too.
