I was never really in to labels, when it came to plants. If I liked it thats all that mattered. Now that I will be planting a lot of fruit trees this spring, getting the variety I want is important. I have read stories where people plant trees, wait years only to find out the tree was mislabeled. Stark Bros was a great company, but has changed owners a few times and has gone down hill. I love Brunt ridge they send well rooted healhy plants. What mailorder nursery do you like?

I don't think I have ever used mail order for plants, just seeds.
I know a few people who have ordered from Raintree ( in Washington) and were pleased.

I have ordered fruit trees from Stark Bros. as well as Millers before they were combined. No problem with either (although I still don't know if my persimmon tree is). It has yet to flower and fruit.

Off topic: What happened to the persimmon harvest this year? My grocery store never did get any of them in this season.

There is a fruit tree nursery 13 miles from my new house. And I found another one only a few counties away, no big distance here in Texas.

But I got a small catalog from
Vernon Barnes and Son Nursery
PO box 250-S
McMinnville, Tenn 37111
931-668-8576
no website, call them for a catalog

Fruit trees 3'-4' tall in this catalog are $8.49 I can order from this place for half the price of the one right down the road from me........so that must mean I could get twice as many!

I heard good things about Raintree.
I ordered a dozen dormant maple trees 2 years ago middle of Feb.and planted the same day that they arrived ... 10 died within 2 months starting a week after leaves started appearing , they sent replacements ... all died within 3 weeks.

I've had good experiences with both Stark Bros and Miller. They've combined now, as the man who ran Miller's retired.
