I'm not very good at vegetable gardening (boy do I miss my grandpa and his wonderful garden!), but I'm going to keep trying until I get it right! Which seed catalogs are the best? What are some of your favorites?

I usually order from Johnny's Selected Seeds, The Cook's Garden, Nichol's Garden Seeds and a few others. I always get new catalogs to check things out. Bountiful Gardens is a new one this year, as is Seeds of Change. They're all good, but Johnny's is especially good for my area, as they're based in Maine, so anything that'll grow up there will grow here!

Where are you? If you update your profile and put your zone in your location slot we can give you better answers for your area.

I always use Fedco. I like their approach, it is great reading with wonderful pictures and it is really inexpensive.

. What about Stokes (www.stokesseeds.com). They are partly aimed at commercial growers, and have a lot more modern corporately-produced hybrid varieties than you may feel comfortable with (although they also have a decent selection of open pollinated things too, esp. with the vegetables)...

...however, they have TERRIFIC growing instructions for everything! Loads of info about best ways of sowing, germination times, growing temps, planting out, fertilizing and misc tips, for each type of plant. I seldom order anything from them but I sure rely on having one of their catalogs aroung for reference ;) The info seems to be on their website too if you click on 'product details' for a particular variety; I believeit is all the cultural info that's in the catalog but haven't really doublechecked.
