The base, being an enemy encampment now.......Castro refused to allow any mingling. However, there were Cubans who had been working on the base, commuting to their homes on the Cuban side...for many many years prior to Castro. He allowed them to continue till the retired.
There were also Cubans who had actually relocated to the Base for their homes. They were allowed to stay.
Nothing went back and forth but the people and their paychecks. Working on a Mil base was good status and good pay.
We also had Jamaicans living and working there. But they had not political restrictions.
