Carol, I also use crushed egg shells for my tomatoes. I don't know if it's that or all the other stuff I put in the planting hole but I've never had blossom end rot. In each hole, I place a fresh fish head, 3 crushed egg shells, handful of bone meal and another of an organic fertilizer and an aspirin. My plants grow 7ft tall and produce well without any problems or pests.

I would love to see a hornworm to see what all the fuss is about. (But maybe not in my garden.)

My tomato plants have faced a similair situation. There is though a commercial product you can buy that will stop blossom end rot. It is called Fertilome Yield Booster. If you can't find it at a local gardening center or hardware store you can definitely order it online. You mix 2 Tb. of Yield booster per gallon of water in a sprayer. Spray your tomato plant's blossoms, fruits, and foliage once or twice a week at dawn or dusk so it will not wilt or bother the plant. I hope this suggestion will be helpful to you.

Mary, so far this year I have not seen one, fingers crossed that they stay away, having enough trouble with the BER.
IF one gets to my tomatoes I will be sure to snap a pic of the creepy thing doing its damage and send it to you!

Shoot, it sprinkled, did not even get wet under the trees. No more rain in forcast for about 5 days. Will have to go water again. :watering

Carol, I don't want to see a picture, I want to see a real one. Never seen one or a squash bug for that matter, just seen pics.

Carol Dee, don't give up hope on the rain. We had about 2 inches last week, when there was absolutely no forecast of rain. One time I looked at the radar and there was nothing anywhere near us; an hour later, there was a huge red blob over us. And it stayed about 3 hours, raining. So, it can happen out of nothing. :fl

O.K. now I am more than a litle envious. 1st your yard is AMAZING then you say you have NO squash bugs or hornworms! Could it be where you live or are you just that lucky?

Carol, probably just where I live. Other than snails/slugs and powdery mildew, I don't really have anything else. ;) I do count my blessings! :)
