My blue potatos are finally starting to show. I had put 15 in the ground. I now have 11 starting to show. At first they are little bitty fellers. They are a deep green/blue leaf. Pretty cool

Are they the ones with the blue flesh? You know when you cut them open? Cool I've always wanted to try those - You'll have to let us know how they do. I did some purple beans one time but I was disappointed they just turned green when I cooked them.

I will let you know about the plants.

The farming plans. Whew. I have visited a few "Farmers Markets". It turns out that alot of them have nothing to do with the Farmer.
Some of them are right next door to produce wholesale outlets and most there including the vendor do not speak English. I was dissapointed.

However, there seems to be a movement in the inner city (Houston) for going green and eating organicly (sp?). Who knew that Libs would have a good thing going for me? Anyway I spoke with a couple of the coordinator/owners of these co-ops/farmers markets and they want to come out and make sure I am not spraying chemicals and they want to see the horse manure that I am getting. They just want to make sure that I am being honest about using sustainable growing practices. Some want to buy directly so they can sell "shares" and some want to let me become part of the farmers markets. Its gonna be rough at first but I think its gonna work out for me with some investment and really hard work. I am gonna be able to sell other craft items as well.

Mjd

Good luck to you! I think you will be surprised though. A whole lot of the whole "organic" farming stuff is just basically going back to the way thing used to be grown. If you just look back 60-70 years chemicals and sprayers just weren't readily available or affordable to the average gardener and people did fine and so did their crops. After WWII, when everything became cheaper and available things went downhill and the commercial operations took over. I really do wish you the best of luck with your farming! BTW where did you get your blue seed potatoes?

I got them from Burgess. They took an abnormal amount of time gettng them to me and I whinned and whinned about it. They did send me two different seed packages for free though. I think it was just a communitication error on both our part.

That's awesome you are trying these. I just cut up some russet potatoes from the grocery store I had sitting around since I couldn't buy a small package of potato seeds anywhere locally... everyone was OUT!

Mine finally started coming up a week or so ago, and now the leaves on top are huge! That went quickly.

Please share pictures if you could? I'd love to see the leaves on yours.
