I planted some blue potatoes from SSE and I don't think they are doing nearly as well as the fingerlings I planted. They are definitely not as big. I am covering often and hope to get a good crop. I think the weather being as cool as it is is helping me out though. I hope I can get some to flower before the heat sets in.

I also got the blue potatoes from Burgess late but mine have not started showing yet. My red pontiacs and kennebecs have been showing just over a week (timed perfectly for a hard frost, of course, so break out the sheets) but were planted earlier, so I'm not too concerned yet. You're a little warmer than I am. Glad to hear yours are sprouting however. I ordered some kennebec's from Burpee last year and they did not sprout well at all.

I would like to see pictures too.
I planted some of the blues, purples, reds, yellows and whites as well as some fingerlings.
I can't wait for them all to come up, it will looks so pretty with all the white, pink and purple flowers.

Now that I know they are available, I get my kennebec and red pontiac from a local gardening store "Chicken Holler". 45 cents a pound and every hill came up.

Your $1.20 a pound is still a lot better than ordering online. I'll never do that again for basic potatoes.

Awesome Texan! My russets are freakin' HUGE already. I didn't know that potatoes grew so fast once they started. Isn't that nuts!?

Blue potatoes sound interesting i might try some this year. I have to put my seed potatoes in a brown bag with either apple and/or other fruits that produce ethlyene gas which causes the potatoes to sprout the "eyes".

Why do you have to do that?
