I believe those 3 apple varieties carry resistance to several diseases too. That's the way to go, I am finding out. Anymore, when I shop the nursery catalogs, I try to single out the plants with good disease resistance and self-pollination, whenever possible. I can't do high-maintenance anymore...at least not at this stage of life. :p

Yes, they do. I didn't buy a Macintosh, but the resistant Mac Free. The same applies to the improved disease resistance of Jonathan apples in the Jonafree and Liberty. They are all dwarf trees, but as you can see there is nothing dwarf about the apple size, quantity or quality. That yellow apple that I didn't harvest 'cuz I was waiting for it to turn red (yes, dumb) was a Pound Sweet apple. This was its first year of production. Next year I will know better.
